Is Area Code 941 Toll Free? No

Seeing a new area code show up can make you wonder whether the call is worth picking up. Here is a little more information if that call has a 941 area code.

Where is Area Code 941?

The 941 area code covers a portion of Florida along the Gulf of Mexico on the state’s western side. That includes Manatee County, Sarasota County, and Charlotte County. It includes many of the cities along the Sun Coast of the state, including Venice, Englewood, Longboat Key, Punta Gorda, Palmetto, Port Charlotte. The 941 area code covers the North Port – Bradenton – Sarasota Metro area. The area code is wholly within the Eastern Time Zone and is one of many Florida area codes.

A History of the 941 Area Code

In 1947 the entire State of Florida had a single area code, 305. Since then many overlays and splits have occurred to keep up with rising demand. Area code 941 came into use on March 3rd 1996 in a split with 813 and covers and area along the coast in southwest Florida.

These changes were necessary to facilitate and support the growth of the area over time. It’s important to note that these changes occurred as demand increased due to population growth and new homes in the area.

Area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) cover most of North America, including the USA, Canada, and some Caribbean nations. When dialing a phone number within the NANP, a country code is necessary when calling from outside of the nation – for local calls this is not normally necessary. This is generally followed by the area code, Numbering Plan Area (NPA) Code, Central Office Code or NXX, and the 4-digit subscriber number.

A number of scams can be attributed to the 941 area code, as with many areas of this region. In some situations, telemarketers have used the 941 area code as their base for contacting and soliciting sales or services over the phone. This is an older style scam that took place when most people used landlines but continues today to some degree.

Other scams are less simple. There are some area code scams for 941 that include a request for money, in some cases, stating that the caller is a member of the Armed Forces, local police station, or firefighters association. They request a donation, but that donation never makes it to the actual organization.

By some reports, the 941 area code has received millions of phone calls considered scams or telemarketers. Most of these are robocalls, where there is no person on the other line to answer questions. Some scams involve the caller pretending to be a member of the IRS or another organization. These often target seniors who may be more willing to pay a bill over the phone.

The 941 area code is a large one, and as such, it can be very important to protect your privacy by knowing who is calling you at any time.

727 Area Code Explained – Location, Time Zone. Scam?

[ad_1]

State Florida
Timezone Eastern
Is Area Code 727 Toll Free? No

Where is Area Code 727?

Area code 727’s service area covers the majority of Pinellas County in the state of Florida. It is the only area code for this geographic area and has no overlays. It covers larger cities and smaller communities alike including St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Hudson, Largo, Safety Harbor, Feather Sound, Tierra Verde, Seminole, Lealman, Elfers, Hillsborough County, Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs and Clearwater. This area code does not cover Oldsmar, even though it is in the area. It covers most cities and towns in the Western portion of Pasco County, including the cities of New Port Richey and Port Richey. In addition, it covers the city of Holiday.

A History of the 727 Area Code

The entire Tampa Bay area was originally covered by 813 area code. This includes cities such as Sarasota, Ellenton, and Port Charlotte. This area code covered all 13 counties in this region for 43 years. Over time, the area grew too large, and the need for additional numbers increased. As a result, Pinellas County and the western part of Pasco County were given a new area code. They split, forming 727, a standalone area code. They whole area code is located in the eastern time zone and it is not a toll-free number.

The original plan for this area was not to split off like this, though. Rather, the region was to have an overlay created, which would mix the new area code with the 813 existing area code. At the time, though, overlays were less common and a newer concept. More so, for an overlay to be applied, it would have required 10-digit phone numbers to be implemented in the area. Consumers were not receptive to the concept of overlaying in the area. They deemed it too confusing to know who to call when it came to numerous area codes (In overlays, the region gets an additional phone number area code that is added to the existing area code. This leads to new phone numbers in the area being given the new area code rather than the old. Additionally, consumers did not like the idea of having to move to 10-digit dialing.

North American area codes are part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), which includes America, Canada, and some countries in the Caribbean. To dial a number within the NANP a country code is necessary when dialing from outside the country. This is generally followed by the area code, Numbering Plan Area (NPA) Code, the Central Office Code or NXX and the 4 digit subscriber number.

At the time, GTE was the dominant carrier. GTE is now part of Frontier Communications. Instead of the overlay plan, GTE moved to a split plan, which divided the area. The split followed the county lines for the most part. The one key exception to this was the city of Oldsmar. It remained in the 813-area code. This was done because the trunk for the city was wired into the Tampa line. GTE determined that this would make a move too expensive to manage.

727 Area Code Scams

Phone scammers from the Tampa area of Florida may use the 727 area code to contact people for telemarking purposes or phishing. There are a number of scams associated with the area. One involved a caller that leaves a return number that has the 727 area code and requests personal information from the call who returns the call. Other scams involve individuals pretending to be law enforcement agencies trying to get personal information or donations from unsuspecting individuals.

Like all phone numbers, those who receive a call from someone in the 727 area code that they do not know, requesting personal information or money, should be reported and ignored.

628 Area Code Explained – Location, Time Zone. Scam?

[ad_1]

State California
Timezone Pacific
Is Area Code 628 Toll Free? No

Each geographic area in the US is assigned an area code that accompanies every telephone phone number in use in America.

Where Is Area Code 628?

The 628 area code serves the San Francisco, Marin County and parts of Mill Valley, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Larkspur, Belvedere, Brisbane, Fairfax, Sausalito, Novato and San Mateo county regions. This area code was first introduced in February 2015 and operates within the pacific time zone.

Marin County is located just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

The 628 area code is an overlay for 415, overlays are why some areas have two area codes. The 415 area code is one of the first three area codes implemented in the state of California and dates back to 1947. When overlays are introduced there is often a grace period for all calls, including local calls, to begin using the full ten-digit number (11 digits when if calling internationally and a country code is needed). This grace period allows customers to update fax machines, security systems, tablets, cell phones and landlines to the new protocol.

Calls to 628 numbers can be made by first adding the three digit Numbering Plan Area (NPA) Code followed a seven-digit number made up of the central office code (NXX) and the subscriber number.

How new area codes are introduced

The use of area codes to accompany telephone numbers began in the 1940s. The idea and design was created by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) and  AT&T. It was envisioned as a toll network that could encompass up to 152 area codes in total. The area codes were applied to geographic areas in both the US and Canada. Each area code could support up to 540 central offices and almost eight million unique seven-digit telephone numbers.

New area codes generally become necessary when the population of an area increases beyond the capacity of the existing area codes. When the limit is approaching, a split or overlay will occur to increase the volume of potential phone numbers. In California, new area codes area generally approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

Today, original area codes such as New York’s 212 have been overlaid with additional, newer area codes. Economic development spurs the need for additional area codes as older ones are exhausted. Once it is determined that a new area code is needed, how and when it will be introduced is decided in the US at the state level.

Scams associated with the 628 area code

As with many area codes in California, the 628 area code is associated with numerous telephone scams. People receiving these calls have reported many scams on the internet. These include auto warranty scams, dating scams and auto insurance scams. Some people have also received calls related to a puppy scam, as well as a loan forgiveness fraud. Perpetrators have pretended to be from UPS and Medicare in order to extract money from those who answer.

If you receive a telephone call and you do not recognize the number, hesitate to answer it. Calls that are important will be registered if you have enough space on your phone to receive messages. Anyone with actual important information will leave a message and provide you with a call back number. Some scam artists do this too, however. Because of this, it is prudent to be on the lookout for something that sounds like it might not be genuine.

When in doubt, contact the company or department that says they are calling you, directly. If the caller says they are reaching you from Visa, for example, hang up and contact Visa at their official number. You will find out if the call you received is truly legitimate.

As a rule of thumb, it is best practice to never supply your bank account, credit card, or other personal information to anyone over the phone.

669 Area Code Explained – Location, Time Zone. Scam?

[ad_1]

State California
Timezone Pacific
Is Area Code 669 Toll Free? No

An area code in North America is a three-digit number that sits at the beginning of a ten or eleven digit phone number as an identifier. This code is associated with the telephone service in a particular geographic area, making it distinct.

California Map Including 669 Area Code

The 669 area code covers part of Northern California, including San Jose, and its surrounding cities and locations. These include parts of Campbell, Fremont, Gilroy, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill, San Jose itself, San Martin, Santa Clara County, Burbank,  Milpitas, Cupertino, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and a few other surrounding areas. All counties and cities within this area code are in the pacific time zone.

International calls need to include the country code +1 before dialling area code 669. Local calls can start with the Numbering Plan Area (NPA) code, then including the central office code or NXX followed by the subscriber number.

History of the 669 area code

The 669 area code came into required use in California in the fall of 2012. This code is an overlay area code, meaning it sits on the geographic area of another pre-existing code, the first of its kind in the San Francisco Bay Area. In this case, 669 overlays the 408 area code. While overlay codes may be a nuisance for some people to adapt, some experts say they indicate the presence of positive economic growth. There is generally a grace period when new area codes are introduced to allow fax machines, alarms and voicemail systems to be updated.

Who decides when to create a new area code?

The North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA) is the organizing body that is the source of all telephone numbers used in the US, Canada and some parts of the Carribean. Notably, Mexico is not a part of it. This organization studies historic growth in geographic areas, and makes predictions around when new area codes might be necessary due to consumer demand. When an area has nearly exhausted its current area code, the NANPA notifies the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), or some other body in charge of phone numbers in a particular state, that a new area code is needed to create bandwidth for new customers.

Each state can decide on its own when and how to introduce new area codes when they are needed.

Known scams associated with the 669 area code

Telephone scammers are an ongoing problem throughout North America. These criminals call your home posing as government agents representing bodies like tax departments and family members who are suddenly in jail and need bail money to get out. These scams are often elaborate and multifaceted and have the aim of getting you to give the perpetrators large sums of money.

Telephone scammers create scam phone numbers by pretending to call from certain area codes, hiding their true origins. The 669 area code has been associated with numerous phone scams. Scammers using the 669 area code have claimed to be from banks. Other criminals have tried pretending to be from online marketplaces, insurance companies, lotteries, and many more.

This is just a sample of the scams associated with the 669 area code. If you do not know the caller or recognize them, it is often a good idea to hang up. Call display features can help to eliminate your chances of answering elicit calls and being drawn into a scam.

Major cities and areas at least partially covered by area code 714 include; Tustin, Placentia, Anaheim, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Fullerton, Cypress, Garden Grove, Brea, Irvine, Westminster, Yorba Linda, Villa Park, Silverado, Fountain Valley, La Palma, Stanton, Long Beach, La Mirada, San Bernardino county, a portion of Los Angeles county and parts San Diego with all operate within the Pacific time zone.

Parts of Chino Hills in San Bernardino County fall under the 714 service area. Some thing La Habra is covered by 714.

Origin of Area Code 714

Prior to the inception of area code 714, the covered region was under original area code 213. Area code 714 was created in 1951 in a flash-cut. At its inception, the area code covered a huge portion of southern California. The coverage extended to Nevada and Arizona state lines and up to the Mexican border. Area code 714 remained in service for over thirty years despite the rapid growth of Southern California. In 1982, area code 619 was created to offset the demand on area code 714. Area code 619 covered most of the southern and eastern portions. In April 1998, area code 949 was created, splitting part of Orange County from 714.

In 2001, a report issued by the CPUC indicated that only 3.9 million phone numbers had been registered under area code 714. This was slightly passed half of the allowable 7.7 million usable numbers allocated to the code. Area code 714 was running out of phone numbers by 2007 due to the continued growth in the number of cell phones and pagers. In September 2008, area code 657 was created to overlay 714, today it still has just a single overlay. The two area codes cover the northern and western parts of Orange County.

Area code 714 is part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). To call a 714 number you will need to country code prefix if you are dialing from outside America. The scammers send a short message to individuals alerting them that a parcel belonging to them has been delivered. They proceed to ask for personal information before delivering the passage. Upon receipt of the information, the scammers go silent on their victims. Criminals use people’s personal information to create fake identities used in different forms of crime, including financial fraud.
  2. Robocall scams- A robocall is an automated call where a machine answers the call instead of a live person. They are the easiest form of scam to detect as you will hear an answering machine instead of a live person. Robocalls are commonly used by marketing companies to reach wider audiences. Robocalls were banned in California; however, scammers still use them for fishing information from their victims. Robocall software are programmed to place calls non-stop, as long as your number is in their database.

Avoiding telephone scams in area code 714 is easier than in other areas. For package scams, you should ignore the message if you are not expecting a package or parcel. You should block and report robocalls to the authorities.

Miles has become very popular in recent years, being the main character of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, an animated film that released in 2018, and his own video game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which came out in 2020. Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 has already gone heavy on the Marvel

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 has already gone heavy on the Marvel collaboration, as along with Doctor Strange in the season pass there is also Spider-Man villain Prowler – who players can earn starting with the release of update 20.20 today by completing his various in-game quests.

However, players have spotted that some of those challenges contain quotes from Prowler from other sources. The most important quest, the one that unlocks Prowler himself, is v bucks generator accompanied by the quote, “you’re on your way, just keep going”. This is an important line from the animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse – which marked the first appearance of Miles Morales in a film – as it’s the last line spoken by Prowler to his nephew Miles.

A number of players, including myself, have wondered why Prowler was chosen as the latest Fortnite ‘secret’ battle pass character – as he’s a pretty Z-tier villain without his personal connection to Miles Morales’ Spider-Man. While this isn’t confirmation, it would make a lot of sense if Miles was added soon.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-0&features=eyJ0ZndfZXhwZXJpbWVudHNfY29va2llX2V4cGlyYXRpb24iOnsiYnVja2V0IjoxMjA5NjAwLCJ2ZXJzaW9uIjpudWxsfSwidGZ3X3NwYWNlX2NhcmQiOnsiYnVja2V0Ijoib2ZmIiwidmVyc2lvbiI6bnVsbH19&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1516349514101235712&lang=en-gb&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pcgamesn.com%2Ffortnite%2Fmiles-morales-skin&sessionId=8878f729f376e35005531a79a80d2e72612498d8&siteScreenName=pcgamesn&theme=light&widgetsVersion=c8fe9736dd6fb%3A1649830956492&width=500px

They are all located in the central time zone.

It’s included in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) and is classified as a General Purpose Code. The NANP helped unify various local numbering plans and connect individuals without requiring the involvement of telephone operators.

Origin of Area Code 334

Area code 334 originated on January 15, 1995 resulting from a split from area code 205.

The areas covered by 334 were previously covered by area code 205, which had been the only area code in the state of Alabama since area codes were implemented in 1947. Area code 334 does not have a middle digit of 0 or 1. This made it the first interchangeable NPA code when it started. However, a transition period between January 15, 1995 and May 13, 1995 permitted the use of area code 205 so that machines like computers and fax machines could be reprogrammed.

657 Area Code Explained – Location, Time Zone. Scam?

[ad_1]

State California
Timezone Pacific Time
Is Area Code 657 Toll Free? No

It can be unnerving to receive a call from an unknown number, here is a little more information if that number starts with the area code 657.

California Map with 657 Area Code

Where Is Area Code 657?

The 657 area code serves many residents in Southern California, including Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Irvine, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Angeles County, Long Beach, Ontario, Orange County, Fountain Valley, Torrance, Tustin, Placentia, Santa Ana, Westminster, and Yorba Linda. In some cases it only serves part of the city or region. Area code 657 was first introduced in September 2008 as an overlay to the 714 area code, which was first introduced in 1951. Area codes in this region go back a long way to about 1947 when the original 213 prefix was created. Since that time, many California area codes have been split numerous times.

Who decides when a new area code will be introduced?

Deciding when and where to implement area codes is a systematic process. As cities and rural regions grow, new development leads to the need for additional telephone numbers. The North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA) studies how regions are growing and monitors their area code needs in order to be able to predict when a new one may be required.

It’s estimated that almost eight million different seven-digit phone numbers can be potentially assigned to a single area code. In practice, not all of these numbers are typically used, however. Companies such as wireless providers often purchase phone numbers in blocks of 10,000. This practice can push an existing area code to exhaustion before all the possible phone numbers are actually assigned to people.

Generally speaking, it is up to each state to decide when and how to introduce new area codes within their borders for each geographic region. Making calls a 657 number is simple, you will need the country code if dialing from outside the US, the Numbering Plan Area (NPA) Code, the NXX or central office code and the four digit subscriber number.

Phone scams associated with the 657 area code

Telephone scams occur when a caller pretends to be someone they are not in order to extract money or personal information from the person they are calling. This includes bank account or credit card information.

In 2020, people living in the billions to scammers, and many Americans have fallen victim to a criminal scheme over the phone.

The 657 area code is connected with numerous phone scams. Some criminals are asking for money with regards to the end of a “free trial offer”. Others are linked with credit card scams offering lower interest rates, gifts, supposed Amazon purchases, fake job interviews, fake system warnings, bank scams, and those posing as the IRS.

As a general rule of thumb, if you do not recognize the number of the person calling you, don’t answer it. If the information truly is important, a message will be left and you can call back at your leisure. Be sure to listen to the message carefully, however. Hang up if you suspect a scam and report it. Stay alert for scam calls, never give out information over the phone is another way many people prevent their details getting into the wrong hands. Some companies have software to help their telephone customers but many spammers still exploit vulnerabilities. It is also sensible to stay away from online scams and suspicious links.
